Leaving a Legacy: Are your memories there for your loved ones to enjoy?

The world is changing quickly but the need to tell our stories and relive our memories is timeless - Cathi Nelson (APPO)

Such wise words and so true.

Our memories are so precious, there are so many not only locked up in boxes in attics / cupboards / draws / cameras / phones, but they are also safely tucked away in our memories.

You only have to look at the popularity of family history. Years and years can be spent research where we have come from and who that is in the picture because the information has been lost over time. Just ask my mum who is still researching after many years!!

Recently I was reviewing my photos from a recent group holiday at Christmas and the name of one of my fellow travellers that I spent a solid 2 weeks with still escapes me, forever to be just a face in a picture until I remember!

Then there are the more cherished family memories and hidden faces in printed photos that I don't know because I was 4 last time I saw them. This has been bought into stark reality recently with the sad passing of my father over a year ago. What names, events, and stories are now forever lost. It is now my mission to discover as many of those stories, names and family connections.

My focus is the 3 easy steps to save them for generations

  • Scan - Digitally scan those printed photos so they are easily accessible and save those names and places in the hidden data

  • Sort - make them easy to find by putting them neatly into folders and make them easier to find with sneaky data in the background

  • Safe-guard - all of the memories with back-ups

  • Share - the joy of these memories with the whole family so my nephews and nieces will know who we were (and are) in those these special moments

Not that we are running out of time, but if not now... when.

What treasured memories would you like to discover or more importantly leave for the next generation? Are they there ready waiting ready to tell your stories?

Just drop me a line if you want to find out about how I can help save your memories for you to enjoy now and for future generations to treasure
