The beauty of taking time out...

I'm so busy I can't think...

How often does this phase go through your head in a day, a week, a year?

At the moment it feels like it is going through my head every minute. I think I might have bitten off more I can chew...I am still in my full-time job as a management consultant; trying to get time to set up my new business passion of decluttering and organising; attempting to fit in some training for a half marathon; all while trying to actually catch up with my family and friends in whatever spare moments I have.... I feel dizzy just writing it down.

I need the world the stop spinning so I can get off

So when the opportunity to go on a laid back trip to France with some friends to drink wine, eat baguettes and eat stinky cheese, I jumped at the chance. It did mean I was in a slight fug the week leading up to my long weekend away, as I desperately tried to get my work to a point where I could hand it over, but I managed it and it was totally worth it. Just the tiny job of switching of my work phone and throwing it into my draw to be forgotten about for 4 days, lifted some of the weight off my shoulders and I started to feel like me again. Goodbye work email, goodbye list, hello chilling.

I could breathe again, I could hear myself again

There is something so beautiful about giving yourself sometime to escape and take a time-out of the to-do list;

  • The weight of the things you have to do

  • The weight of the things you should do

  • The weight of the things you want to do

Just giving yourself the permission to relax and become you again will increase your productivity in the long run as you have time to re-charge and come back refreshed and ready to go!

It doesn't have to be a weekend away it can be as simple as sitting down for an hour to read the paper, doing a craft (I love a cross stitch) or going for a walk to the shops. Find out what works for you and make some quality time to do it.

Go on try it, believe me it is magic!
